Shaggy, born Orville Richard Burrell on October 22, 1968 in Jamaica, was very notable in the 2000s, and is popular because of his music productions including such genres as rap, pop and reggae. His fame and fortune has been boosted by such hit singles as Boombastic, Angel, and It Wasn`t Me. Shaggy’s interesting stage-name arose because of his hair looking like that of a shaggy dog.
So just how rich is Shaggy? Sources currently estimate that Shaggy’s net worth is as high as $22 million, all accumulated through his career in the music industry.
In brief, Shaggy moved to New York along with his family at the age of 18 . It was in 1987 when Shaggy started singing, but it was sometime later that Shaggy started attending very intensive singing lessons. Shaggy was noticed, however, not while appearing on the scene, but just while walking down the street and singing.
Shaggy was drafted into the military for some time, and during this period he discovered what style of singing he wanted to concentrate on. It is certainly true that Boombastic was created under the influence of his experience in the military. There are no doubts its sales helped Shaggy to increase the total amount of his net worth. It was actually in the 1990s when Shaggy really plunged into the music industry. His debut single was Oh Carolina by the Folkes Brothers. Soon after that he was invited to join as a guest in the production of The Unreleased Project, an album by Kenny Dope. Boombastic, that would later become a soundtrack of a Levi`s commercial, was released in 1995. There are no doubts that this contribution to the commercial of this worldwide known brand helped Shaggy to boost the total amount of his net worth.
It was in 2000 when Shaggy increased the overall sum of his net worth even more when Hot Shot, one of his more popular albums, was released, being certified platinum six times in the United States. The best known singles from this album are It Wasn`t Me as well as Angel. Hot Shot, which reached the top positions of many charts in the United Kingdom, as well as the Billboard charts in the US. His other albums include Lucky Day, Clothes Drop, Original Doberman, Midnite Lover, Intoxication, Summer In Kingston, and Rise.
For the record, Boombastic was rewarded as the Best Reggae Album. Shaggy`s albums Clothes Drop, Intoxication, and Summer in Kingston were also nominated for the same award. His latest project includes Out of Many, One Music, released in 2013. Also of interest is that in 2002 Shaggy was nominated for the awards of Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist and for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist, as well as receiving a nomination for Favorite Internet Artist of the Year.
Shaggy’s personal life revolves around his marriage toRebecca Packer in 2014.
